Wes Dain

Claude “Wes” Dain, 97, of Olathe, formerly of Topeka passed away on December 22, 2022.   He was born on May 13, 1925 at Osawatomie, Kansas the son of Cecil and Laura (Adams) Dain.   He lived with his family at Osawatomie until moving to Valley Falls.   Later they moved to Auburn where the Dain family operated a dairy farm.   In 1952 the family moved to Kiro between Silver Lake and Topeka and operated a Store, Conoco Gas Station, garage and boat house.  Wes continued the family business and took over operations at Kiro Corner until 1977.  He built a house that year up on Huxman Road and began to work for Goodyear.    He worked at Goodyear until suffering an injury and a series of layoffs in the early 1980-81 period of time.   He went to work at the Menninger Foundation as their lead mechanic until retiring in 2001.

He was married to Sandra Sue Stithem on November 27, 1968 in Hoyt.   Sandy preceded him on June 22, 2020.

Claude was a man of many trades, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working in his yard.   He and Sandy were longtime members of Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Todd Dain and his wife Dr. Jessica Dain of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter Chasity Sue Rickel and husband Jerry of Mayetta; six grandchildren, Jerrod Flowers, Andie Dain, Tanner Flowers, Ashton Dain, Brock Dain and Olivia Rickel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and seven siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 29 ^th at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.  A visitation will be prior the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm where the family will receive friends.   Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.   To leave the family a message please visit www.davidsonfuneral.com
