Vernon Chance, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 8, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on March 1, 1938, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Vernon lived a rich and fulfilling life, known for his ornery yet outgoing personality. He had a special ability to connect with people, often engaging in conversations with everyone he met.

Vernon dedicated 17 years of his career to American Linen Supply in Topeka, alongside 16 years as a truck driver for various companies. He also proudly served in the National Guard in Topeka for six years. Vernon was a committed member of the Teamsters Union for several years.

He loved many activities that brought joy to his life. He had an infectious love for playing cards, telling jokes, and listening to records. Tennis with his cousin was a favorite pastime, as was camping at the creek in his younger days and playing baseball. Vernon enjoyed the company of his dogs, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He also expressed his creative side through writing poetry. His appreciation for planes and wolves added to the diverse interests that made him who he was.

Vernon is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Chance, whom he married on August 11, 1972, in Topeka, Kansas. He is also survived by his daughters, Coleen (David) Watson and Robin Stumbaugh; grandchildren Dalton Moritz, Kaleb Chance, Jalen Chance, Alexis Watson, Matthew Watson, Noah Hart, Brandon Hart, and Logan Stumbaugh; and great-grandchildren Jonah Hart, Dalton Moritz Jr., and Dillon Moritz. He touched the lives of all his family members, who will cherish his memory.
