Listen to Obituary

Tony Lloyd Brandenburg, 75, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 26, 1951, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Lester Lloyd and Rosemary (O’Bryan) Brandenburg.

He served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam from March 6, 1971 and later transitioned into the U.S. Air Force until being honorably discharged April 18, 1979, achieving the rank of Airman, E-2.

Tony was employed by various construction companies in Topeka. He and his wife, Chris later owned and operated the Tony’s Cleaning Service in Topeka and most recently worked for Wal-Mart until retiring in 2007.

Tony married Christina "Chris" Ann Brandenburg on November 5, 1983 in Topeka. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include his daughter, Shannon (Brandenburg) Ruiz of Topeka; two grandchildren, Rosemary Ruiz and Angelo Ruiz (Sophia Heydon) of Topeka; and a great-grandson, Juan Thadeo-Hernandez, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tony loved his family especially spending time with his grandkids and his pets. Whether by the gentle ripple of a fishing lake, his passion for eagles—collecting their images and stories—revealed his deep appreciation for nature, wildlife and the great outdoors.

His other enjoyment was Dirt Track and Stock Car Racing. But it was the thrill of the race that truly ignited his spirit. Alongside his friends, Tony devoted countless hours to building race cars, transforming metal and dreams into machines of speed and competition. The tracks of Topeka Raceway, Thunderhill, Hutchinson Fair Grounds, Salina, and Junction City echoed with the sound of his determination and skill, each trophy and placement a testament to his dedication and friendships. Tony’s legacy is one of love, adventure, and the enduring bonds forged through shared passions. He will be remembered not only for the trophies he helped win but for the joy he gave to those who raced alongside him and the family he held so dear.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be at a later date. Please check back for more information.
