Thomas McClure, born on December 14, 1942, in Atchison, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Home of the Flint Hills of Silver Lake. His journey through life was marked by dedication, a spirited personality, and a profound love for those around him.
Thomas’s early years were rooted in Kansas, where he graduated from Topeka High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Washburn University. His commitment to service extended beyond academia; from October 1965 to October 1969, Thomas proudly served in the United States Navy. This period defined much of his sense of discipline and resilience, traits that would carry through his personal and professional life.
For 29 years, Thomas dedicated himself as a Research Analyst for the State of Kansas. His work was not just a career but a calling, underscored by a sharp intellect and a passionate commitment to understand the complexities that framed his beloved state. Those who knew Thomas recognized his ornery and stubborn nature, a man who always followed his own agenda and his own schedule. Yet beneath that tenacity lay a deeply caring and giving heart, always eager to learn everything about the people he met and keenly attentive to their stories.
Thomas had a vibrant spirit that found joy in the simple and joyful moments of life. He was an ardent supporter of Washburn University sports, faithfully following their teams wherever they played, his enthusiasm never waning. When not cheering from the stands, he delighted in playing bridge, a game that inspired his strategic mind, and he relished travel, embracing new places and experiences with an open heart.
Though Thomas is no longer with us, his legacy endures in the memories he created and the lives he touched. His parents, Mary (Cline) McClure and Theodore McClure, are now reunited with him in eternal rest, their love woven into every chapter of his life. Those who continue to hold Thomas close include the Duane Renfro family, whose presence reflects the meaningful connections Thomas fostered.
A private graveside service will take place at Rochester Cemetery.
