Shirley Kay Pletcher

January 7, 1942 — November 8, 2021

Shirley Kay Pletcher, 79, passed away on November 8, 2021 after battling breast cancer for several years.   Shirley was born January 7, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to Walter H. Kuritz and Lois N. Faidley Kuritz.  She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Earl E. Hubbart.

She was married to Keith Tolbert and they had a daughter Terry Kay.  They were divorced.  In 1969, she married the love of her life, Ronald Ray Pletcher.  They added another daughter to the family when Debbie Rae was born.

She graduated from Seaman High in 1960 and stayed close to many of her classmates over the years.  She retired as owner of the County Line Newspaper in Eskridge.   She was also an active volunteer for many years.

Shirley is survived by a daughter Debbie and Jeff Stuewe, son-in-law Paul Savage, and three very special grandchildren, Justice Stuewe, Kinsey Stuewe and Kaytlin Savage, all of Alma; siblings, sister, Marnee Hubbart of Alma, sister Kathy and Bob Schlink and brother Mike and Cathy Kuritz, all of Hudson, Illinois, and her two loving cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ron in 1998, daughter Terri in 2016 and her brother Patrick Hubbart in 2009.

Shirley was a lover of all animals, but was particularly fascinated by elephants, giraffes, tree frogs, praying mantis, butterflies and hummingbirds.

“I wish to thank my family and friends for loving and caring for me and allowing me to love you.  Please do not grieve for me.  I’m free of pain and worry and hopefully in that beautiful place with Jesus.   I’ve lived my life stumbling many times along the way and cried and laughed too.  I’ve loved a lot and been loved much.  What more could I want.”  SKP
