In Loving Memory of Sandy Day
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sandy Day, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who left this world peacefully at her home on May 12, 2025. Born on July 20, 1948, in Onaga, Kansas, Sandy was an extraordinary individual known for her unwavering kindness and generous spirit. She had a unique gift for connecting with others, always offering warmth and compassion.
Sandy dedicated much of her professional life as an administrative assistant for American Home Life Insurance Company. Her commitment to her work was only matched by her devotion to her family. A proud graduate of Hiawatha High School, Class of 1966, Sandy carried with her the strong sense of community and dedication that defined her academic years into every chapter of her life.
Known for her warmth and benevolence, Sandy had a remarkable ability to get along with everyone she met. Her caring nature was a hallmark of her personality, and her legendary chocolate chip cookies were beloved by all. Sandy took immense pride in being family-oriented and loyal, forming bonds that were as deep as they were enduring.
Throughout her life, she found joy in the simple pleasures—gardening, delighting in the hummingbirds that visited her yard, and mastering Candy Crush with impressive dedication. She treasured time with friends, whether sharing margaritas, going for leisurely walks, or enjoying road trips with her late husband.
Above all else, Sandy’s greatest joy was her family. Her two sons, Brian (Lynette) Day and Travis (Lindsey) Day, along with her cherished grandchildren, Sydney and Carson Day, were her proudest accomplishments. Her 50-year marriage to the love of her life, the late Steve Day, was a beautiful testament to lasting love and devotion—a bond that continues to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Sandy is also survived by her sister, Terry Cooney, who cherished her dearly, as well as her beloved nephews and niece: Shawn Holle, Jeremy Holle, and Jill Blake. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents, Clarence and Alberta Tessendorf, and her sister, Brenda Wenger.
Sandy Day will be remembered not only for the many roles she held in life but for the light she brought into the lives of everyone she encountered. Her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
