Sandra Ponte

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Barngrover Ponte, 71, of Topeka, Kansas went to be with Our Heavenly Father on December 2, 2020.  She was born July 3rd, 1949 the daughter of Robert L. Barngrover and Evelyn R. Bingham Barngrover in Topeka, Kansas.  She attended Topeka Public Schools.  She graduated from Topeka West High School in 1967.  Sandy married Ralph J. Ponte August 18th, 1972, they later divorced.

She was a member of Theta Rho, Pioneer Volunteers (formerly the Telephone Pioneers of America), Communication Workers of America Local 6401, and Wanamaker Woods Church of Nazarene.  Sandy worked at the Topeka Bindery, Falley’s, McDonald’s and AT&T (formerly Southwestern Bell Telephone), from which she retired after 33 years of service.  She was a DCPR Senior Reports Clerk at AT&T. Sandy enjoyed traveling until she could no longer do so, time with her daughters, grandchildren, various types of music, watching movies and time with extended family.

Sandy is survived by two daughters, Teresa Ponte (Al) of Meriden, Amy Ponte of Topeka; three grandchildren, August Wessel (Andrew) of Minot, ND, Ellen Doty of Silver Lake, and Devin Ponte of Topeka; her mother, Evelyn Barngrover; a sister, Karen (Clark) Absher of Peyton, CO; two brothers,  Gary (Edna) Barngrover of Topeka, and Kerwin Barngrover of Palmetto, FL; many nieces and nephews and a very large extended family.  She was preceded in death by her father Robert L. Barngrover.

Cremation and a private family service is planned.  A celebration of life will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ellen Doty and Devin Ponte Educational Fund at Heritage Bank (in care of Barb Montgomery), 3024 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66614, or to Susan G.
