Roberta J. Freed, 95, of Silver Lake, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
She was born November 14, 1930, in Paxico, Kansas, the daughter of Hylas and Doris (Sloyer) Blankenship. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1949.
Roberta married Raymond K. Freed on September 12, 1950 in Topeka, KS. They had three children, Cheryl, Rhonda and Randy. She was blessed to stay home and raise children. Roberta was a Girl Scout Leader for many years.
Through the years, she worked at various Elementary schools as a cook. In 1964, she and Ray opened Freed Mobil Service in Silver Lake until they sold the business 1983. Following the sale of their business, Roberta worked for the Silver Lake School District.
Roberta dedicated many years to the Senior Citizens Board in Silver Lake, where she served as the Activity Coordinator. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebecca's. She started attending Silver Lake First Baptist Church in 1964 with her family.
In her spare time, Roberta loved painting and created many master pieces. Although, she had many passions, spending time with her family was Roberta’s favorite past time. They traveled many places together and went on numerous camping trips through the years.
She leaves behind her children, Cheryl May, Rhonda (Joe) Majka and Randy Freed; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Gerald (Joy) Blankenship and sister in laws, Nancy Blankenship and Carolyn Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Freed; her parents; brothers, Paul Blankenship and Gale Blankenship; son in law, Ronald May and daughter in law, Kelly Freed.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 am., Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Silver Lake First Baptist Church, 3439 NW Hoch Road, Silver Lake. Her family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Silver Lake Cemetery. In her honor, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Silver Lake First Baptist Church 3439 NW Hoch Road, Silver Lake, KS 66539.
