Robert “Bob” Thomas, 76, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026.
He was born on August 16, 1949, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, to Reverend Dale C. Thomas and Helyn June Thomas. He married Candace Thomas on May 4, 1996, and they shared 29 wonderful years together.
Bob was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, which began early in life when he took over a business building pickup covers. He later worked in home construction, leading a framing crew and performing trim carpentry, before transitioning into a successful career in real estate. He joined Countrywide Realty, Inc. in 1993, became a Broker/Partner in 1996, serving as Supervising Broker for Countrywide and became Certified Real Estate Appraiser for Bunting Appraisal Service until his retirement in August of 2024. Over the course of his career, he built lasting relationships and earned a respected reputation in the community. He also served as president of the local Topeka Board of Realtors, reflecting his leadership and dedication to his profession.
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and greatly enjoyed sharing that passion with family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and his commitment to conservation, including his participation in the start of the local Hunter Safety Program, being involved in the National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and others.
He is survived by his loving wife, Candace Thomas; his sister Jane and Mike Stewart; his children, Mike and Debbie Thomas, Dirk Thomas, Jason and Jolene Shove, Kari and Micheal Struemph and Cher and Jeff Baker; his grandchildren, Ezra and Alyssia Shove, Olivet, Ivy, and Avangeline Shove, Cohen, Barrett, and Asher Struemph, Jessica and Jeremy Morgan, Meghan, Libby, Allison and Max Baker; and his great-grandchildren, Sawyer Shove and Grace Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Dale C. Thomas and Helyn Thomas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 25, 2026, between 5:30 and 7:30 at the Viking Grill in Hunter’s Ridge shopping center at NW 46th St. & Hwy 75 in his memory. There will be an opportunity to share a short memory of Bob at 6:00, followed by a toast and a shot of his favorite libation.
We request no flowers and no memorials will be named, if you wish to donate in his name, we ask that you do so to your favorite charity.
Bob will be laid to rest at a later date, with a private family gathering.
