Richard "Dick" Devoe, a dedicated drywall finisher and a cherished family man, passed away on February 20, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on January 7, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. Dick was a simple man with a big heart, known for his storytelling and a personality that shone through in every encounter. Friends were very important to him, and he had a knack for sharing tales that brought laughter and joy to those around him.

Dick proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a testament to his commitment and duty. After his military service, he took his skills to the construction field, where he worked as a drywall finisher for Stultz Construction in Baldwin.

Education was something Dick valued; he attended Beaver Valley High School in Nebraska before furthering his studies at Washburn University. He cultivated a love for learning that lasted his entire life, making him an avid reader who could recall random fun facts and trivia with ease.

Outside of work and education, Dick had a variety of hobbies that filled his days. He enjoyed taking out his metal detector, woodworking, and spending time in nature through fishing and target shooting, much of which took place in his own backyard. On warm days, he found joy in simply sitting outside, soaking in the sun and enjoying the beauty of life.

Dick leaves behind his loving wife, Linda Lukert-Devoe, whom he married on November 19, 1993, in Miami, Oklahoma, his son, Michael Devoe, his niece Jennifer (Billy) Edwards, his great-nieces, Kara and Deborah and a host of extended cousins and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Devoe; mother, Alberta (Davenport) Devoe; and sister, Mary (Clifford) Hall.

Friends and family will remember Dick for his kind spirit, excellent memory, and the warmth he brought into their lives. His legacy as a storyteller and a devoted family man will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
