Listen to Obituary

Phoebe VanAnh Brodine lived 18 years deeply loved by her family and friends.

Carrying Phoebe in their hearts and memories forever are her parents, Chris and Dianna; her sisters and brother-in-law, Anna, Natalie and Sam; and her very spoiled dog, Marvin (plus two guinea pigs and a grumpy cat). She will be incredibly missed by her grandparents, Bill and Rhonda; aunts, uncles and cousins: Kelly and Mary Lammers, Sydney, Hunter, Rocky, Carter and Brooke; Gary and Kathy Davenport, Heather, Aimee, Xavier, Noah, Chase, Quenten, Holly, Creighton and Indy; Tammy Criss, Amanda, Jason, Maysona and Korbyn; David and Angie Brodine, Dawson, Amaya and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donovan and Jenalee; her aunt, Carrie Strivens; and her cousin, Candy Davenport.

She loved and was loved by so many more people than we can mention, but special friends include her besties Maegan, Autumn, Reagan and Emily; her NSM small group; and her freshman babies who aren’t freshman anymore.

Pheebs was a talented musician, athlete and craftsman. She loved playing drums on the drumline at SHS and as a Washburn Marching Ichabod. From the time she was little, she was on the softball fields, volleyball court and basketball court, often with her Little Lady Vikes teammates. Scoring a run in the hard-fought loss at state softball last year was one of her proudest moments, but mostly she just loved being with her coaches and teammates, even if she couldn’t manage to stay awake on the bus. If she wasn’t playing, she was keeping the book, making the social media graphics or sharing sarcastic comments on the bench. Phoebe built thousands of dollars of LEGO over the years, and she’s probably the only 18-year-old on the planet who used her Christmas money to buy a table saw and a ShopVac.

Phoebe showed her love through acts of service, which was reinforced through her four years with Key Club, whether that was showing up at school with drinks for the coaches and teachers, driving her friends home after practices and games, or stopping by mom’s office with Crumbl cookies. She was known to send most of her selfies on .5, so her sisters and friends probably have camera rolls filled with Phoebe’s forehead. Phoebe also was remarkably consistent with her food preferences, with a short list of meals in rotation for her dad to make for dinner and a budget line item for Sonic, McDonalds and Panda Express.

Friends and family who wish to attend her celebration of life gathering from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Sunrise Optimist, 720 NW 50th St, Topeka, KS 66617 or the service on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66617 are asked to wear hoodies, sweatshirts and comfy clothes. Pheebs wouldn’t want it any other way.

Donations can be made in her name to the Topeka Community Foundation for a scholarship to be named later or to the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline.

There aren’t enough words to describe Phoebe and the way she impacted the people she loved. She will be missed more than she could ever understand. Her family wants her friends to remember to take care of each other. It’s okay to not be okay.
