Phillip A. Lawrence, 76, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026 peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
He was born October 25, 1949, in Jamestown, Alabama, the son of Dr. Daniel and Mercedes (Johnson) Lawrence. He was raised in Menlo, GA. After high school, he relocated to Topeka, KS.
Phil dedicated over 40 years of service to Hallmark Cards in Topeka, KS.
Phil married Barbara Lynette Hirschberg on his birthday, October 25, 1980, in Topeka, KS at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They were able to spend nearly 46 loving years together.
He was a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church, of Topeka and enjoyed serving as a Greeter.
Sports were a major part of Phil’s life. He always had a passion for playing and excelled at playing Baseball. While in high school, the scouts for the Pittsburg Pirates took a look at his skills. Phil played both fast pitch baseball and slow pitch softball for many years. He followed the Atlanta Braves and the Kansas City Royals. He was a forever Georgia Bulldog fan. Phil followed the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs and loved the Kansas Jayhawks.
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Gun Smoke and John Wayne movies and collecting sports cards with his grandsons. By far, his children and grandchildren were his favorite to watch playing sports and he proudly cheered from the stands.
Phil will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara Lawrence; his children, Shawn Lawrence, Danielle (Matt) West and Abby Allen and his beloved grandchildren, Kelsi, Tanner, Trey, Hunter, Hudson and Harper; his great grandchildren, Khloe and Zane. He is also survived by his sister and brother in laws, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Whitaker.
His family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Parker Price and Davidson Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka KS 66608. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4211 NW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66617. He will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
