Peggy Irene Long, 74, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
She was born June 11, 1947, in Meriden, Kansas, the daughter of Harry A. and Zora C. (Garner) Martin. She was a 1965 graduate of Meriden High School and attended Kansas State University. She loved working in the Horticulture Department.
Peggy married Don Long "Don's Carz" on January 19, 1968 in Cassopolis, Michigan. They were together 53 years. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Long of Topeka; brother Donald (Joan) Martin of Burlingame, sister Sue (Ray) Hallauer of Holton, brother Mike (Debbie) Martin of Meriden. Although she never had grandchildren, she helped raise many nephews and nieces, and their children also.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her son, Scott in 2012.
Peggy loved spending time with family. Her home was always open for visits. Whether it was a hot cup of cocoa, and just a good long chat. She always had an ear, and a way with words to help you find your own path. She encouraged others to live their lives to the fullest. But, she could Mom you if you needed that as well. Regardless of the conversation, you always felt better after talking with her. She loved to travel and enjoy life. Family vacations were always an adventure with her. She loved to experience all that life had to offer. Later in life she dabbled in quilting, and completed several projects with her daughter.
Honoring Peggy's wishes, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held in the future on an undetermined date.
Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, will be handling all correspondence.
