Pearl Jean Radefeld, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved matriarch of her family, passed away on April 17, 2026. Born on February 9, 1930, Pearl lived a full and meaningful life, marked by her dedication to her career, her faith, and the cherished moments she shared with loved ones.
Pearl was a graduate of Seaman High School and went on to serve as an accountant for the State of Kansas Insurance Department, exemplifying professionalism and diligence throughout her career. Her work was a reflection of her steadfast commitment and integrity.
A woman of many talents and passions, Pearl delighted in baking, especially crafting her famous cinnamon rolls that brought joy to family gatherings and friends alike. She also had a deep love for crafting and crocheting, often showcasing her handmade creations at various craft shows. Her creative spirit was a testament to her meticulous nature and the care she invested in every stitch and swirl.
Pearl was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had formerly been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of strength and comfort.
Her family remembers her as the true heart and matriarch of their lives. She is lovingly survived by her son, Dennis Lee Radefeld, and his wife Mary of Topeka; her daughter, Cathy Rake-Beeson of Tecumseh; six dear grandchildren: Carl Rake, DeWayne Rake, Mitchel Hupe, Angie Aldridge, Jennifer Powell, and Jeremiah Radefeld; seven cherished great-grandchildren: Katareena Rake, Kyndall Rake, Ryan Rake, Zachary Rake, Allison Hupe, Asher Hupe, Jaelyn Voth, and Griffin Powell; and one great-great grandchild, Paisley. She is also survived by her sister, Jessie Dreher and sister in law, Janice Shelton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Radefeld, to whom she was married on May 5, 1954, in Paris, Arkansas, and who passed away on May 19, 2009. Pearl was also preceded in death by her siblings Walt Shelton, Virginia McPeek, Francis McGuire, Elzora Miller, and Pat, as well as her parents, Estes and Alta Shelton.
A graveside service honoring Pearl’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas, please check back. This is where family and friends gathered to celebrate her enduring legacy.
Pearl Jean Radefeld’s life was one of grace, love, and dedication—an exemplar of strength and compassion who leaves behind a family profoundly touched by her presence and a community enriched by her kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
