Paul W. "Pete" Metzger

Paul W. ”Pete” Metzger, 89, of Topeka passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was born June 14, 1928 the son of Frank T. and Jessie E. Humphries Metzger.   He was raised in Topeka and after living in several different places, the family settled in Highland Park and he graduated from Highland Park High School.   He raised his family in North Topeka and the family went to Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ where “Pete” served on numerous committees which he usually chaired.   He worked for the ATSF Railroad for over 42 years before retiring in 1990. He also delivered the Topeka Capital Journal for over 15 years in North Topeka. “Pete” was a part-time employee of Davidson Funeral Home from 1952 on, working for his life-time best friend, Marvin Davidson.  He also worked for Midwest Machine Works in north Topeka.  He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge #90 AF&AM, Helena Chapter #210 Order of Eastern Star, NOTOMA, started Boy Scout Troop #30, and the North Topeka Historical Society. He resided at Brewster Place the past six years.

He was married to Arlene Evelyn Smith on April 17, 1949 in Topeka. Arlene passed on October 30, 2011.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Wall and her husband Larry of Topeka; his sister, Mary Quinley of Kaysville, Utah; three grandchildren, Becky True and husband Travis, Crystal Loethen and husband Joe and Bill Wall and wife Amanda. “Pete” had six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Arlene; his parents, Frank and Jessie; son Dan Metzger in 2015, daughter Ginger Metzger in 2005, brother Maurice Metzger in 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, August 15 at Seaman Community Church, 2036 NW Taylor, Topeka Kansas 66608. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday at Seaman Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Seaman Community Church or to the Brewster Foundation.
