Morris Sowards, age 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday evening, August 17, 2018 at Midland Hospice Care. Morris was born October 3, 1935 in Manassa, Colorado the son of Roland and Laura Crowther Sowards. Morris graduated from Manassa High School and attended BYU. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 – 1962. Morris married Barbara L. Broadbent May 29, 1958 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Morris owned and operated Photo One Commercial Photography for 24 years and later Century 21 Real Estate. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Arab Shrine in Topeka. Morris enjoyed collecting coins, clocks and ballcaps. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Landen Wall. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Barbara; three sons, Kevin (Kim) Sowards of Topeka, Kurt Sowards of Augusta, Keith (Linda) Sowards of Topeka; two daughters, Karla (Chris) Savoie of Topeka and Kim (Fred) Patton of Topeka; two sisters, Coleen Guymon of Colorado and Marie Burt of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. He will lie in state Friday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
