Mike Dougherty, a beloved husband, father, son, and brother, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on April 8, 1982, in Hawaiian Gardens, California, Mike lived his life with an undeniable spirit, one that resonated deeply with those fortunate enough to know him.

Mike's career as a machinist at UP & CPKC Railroad showcased his dedication and tenacity, earning him admiration during his 15 years of service. But before he became a skilled craftsman, he forged a different path, proudly serving in the Navy from 2000 to 2004. As a plank owner for the USS Howard, he displayed a steadfast commitment to his country and his fellow sailors, a passion that mirrored his stubborn yet lovable personality.

An alumnus of Corona High School, Mike carried memories of his youth throughout his life. His simple, yet profoundly enriching existence revolved around his love for classic cars and motorcycles. Whether he was tinkering under the hood or cruising down open roads, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm. The vehicles he adored were not just machines—their restoration and maintenance brought him joy and provided an avenue for expression.

Music fueled Mike’s spirit, echoing through his life in vibrant waves of punk rock and rockabilly. Every note was a reminder of his carefree soul, a soundtrack to his adventures, filled with bursts of laughter and camaraderie. It was these very melodies that lingered in the air during family gatherings, where he was the heart of every celebration.

Cooking was another of Mike's great passions. He wielded his grill like an artist, transforming simple ingredients into culinary masterpieces. His ability to smoke meat and barbecue earned him a reputation as a wonderful cook, and his steaks were legendary among family and friends—each bite a testament to his love for sharing happiness at the table.

Mike's devotion to his family was the foundation of his life. He found profound joy in his role as a husband to Cherie Dougherty, whom he married on July 27, 2018, in Las Vegas, NV, and as a proud father to Laila, Harvest, and Ryder. His children adored him, drawing inspiration from his unwavering love and support as he taught them the essences of hard work and joy in life's simplest pleasures.

He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel Trujillo, and his brother, Bryan Dougherty. Their loss casts a shadow on the legacy he leaves behind, yet his memory will continue to shine through his wife, children, mother Denise Trujillo, sisters Cindy and Kathy Trujillo, and brother Mario Trujillo. While he may have departed this world physically, the indelible mark he has left on the hearts of his loved ones will forever remain—a reminder of a truly admirable man who lived life unapologetically, celebrating every moment with an enthusiasm that was infectious.

Mike Dougherty's spirit will ride on through the laughter of his children, the cherished recipes on family tables, and the roar of engines on the open road. He has embarked on his final journey, but his legacy remains alive in the love and memories he created.

Cremation is planned. Private services will be held.
