Michael "Mike" Wilson

Michael David "Mike" Wilson, born on October 11, 1968, in Topeka, Kansas, departed this world on August 1, 2026, at the age of 57, leaving behind a legacy that resonates with warmth and dedication. A proud son of James Albert and Cheryl Lee (Acord) Wilson, Mike's journey began in Topeka, where he graduated from Highland Park High School in 1987. His academic pursuits saw him earn a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, followed by another bachelor’s degree in computer information science from Friends University.

Mike crafted a distinguished human resources career with Farmland Foods, later Smithfield Foods, and brought his talents to Garney Construction in Kansas City, Missouri. His passion for teaching and empowering others left a mark on all who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Mike shared a cherished chapter with Doneen Smith, welcoming two beloved daughters, Paige and Jenna, who remain in Topeka. Mike's love for them defined much of his life's joy and purpose. Together, they embarked on a journey to visit all 30 MLB stadiums, achieving cherished memories in each of the 15 already visited.

A man of adventurous spirit, Mike found happiness in biking, camping, traveling, and attending rock concerts, but most of all, he treasured moments spent with his daughters. A testament to his loyalty and heart, Mike completed a 100-mile bike ride in Lake Tahoe in memory of his late best friend, Dion, who succumbed to leukemia.

Preceded in death by his father, his aunt Diane Henderson, and his dear friend Dion, Mike's memories are lovingly preserved by his family: his devoted mother, Cheryl (Timothy) Cress, his brothers Brian Wilson (Christina Branson), Christopher Wilson, and half-brother Joshua (Susan) Wilson. His nephew Kyler and several cousins also hold him close in their hearts.

Mike will be remembered for his mischievous spirit, especially fondly by his brothers and mother, leaving behind stories that continue to inspire smiles and laughter. His impact on those around him was profound, reflecting a life truly lived.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. An informal gathering of family and friends celebrating his life will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. The family encourages those attending to wear their favorite sports team attire.
