Michael Jack Shinkle

Michael J. Shinkle, age 61, of Hoyt, KS passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at K.U. St. Francis Hospital after a battle with Covid 19.  Mike was born December 1, 1958 in Medicine Lodge, KS the son of Jack and Corine (Miller) Shinkle.  Mike graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1977.  Mike then graduated from Hutchinson Community College and then Manhattan Bible College with a degree in bible and missions.  Mike married Kim Kent August 1, 1981 in Hoyt. He then served as associate pastor at the Hoyt Baptist Church.  Mike served as pastor at the Open Door Church in Medicine Lodge for over 14 years.  Mike served as pastor of the Open Way Church for over 20 years.  He worked as the Director of Food Services at the Topeka Rescue Mission.  Mike was bi-vocational, as he enjoyed ranching, farming, fixing things and building about anything.  He served as a sidewalk Santa Claus for the last five years.  Above all things, Mike's greatest love was being with his family.

Mike was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Shinkle, who died in infancy, and a sister, Jana Shinkle.  He is survived by his wife, Kim of over 39 years; four sons, Luke (Tiffany) Shinkle of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark (Holly) Shinkle of Topeka, Caleb Shinkle of Lawrence and Justus Shinkle of Hoyt; five daughters, Jana (Mark) Sawyer of Kansas City, KS, Hannah (Judah) Bigelow of Kansas City, KS, Leah Shinkle of Lawrence, Rachel Shinkle of Topeka, and Abigail Shinkle of Topeka; a sister, Jean Glenn of Longford, KS; 13 grandchildren, Hope, Rade, Isaac, Josiah, Malia, Emory, Josslyn, Asher, Everett, Kennedy, Mariah, Ezra and Archer.

Private family graveside services will be Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.  Mike will lie in state Monday from noon – 6:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission and left in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.  Services will be livestreamed at the Davidson Funeral Home & Cremation Services Facebook Page.  davidsonfuneral.com
