Listen to Obituary

Michael G Shedrick, 82, passed away in his Lyndon home on Saturday, June 6th, 2026. He was born in York, Pennsylvania on October 14th, 1943 as the son of Ervin Grant and Rosemary Wagman Shedrick. Michael grew up in the borough of Dallastown, from which he would attend Catholic schools. He worked in a local grocery store in the nearby town of York; before transferring to finish his education in Dallastown.

Michael was known to be a thrill-seeker; antics would include climbing the local water tower and swimming across the nearby Susquehanna River. He decided to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, which would bring him to his fated resting home of Topeka, where he was discharged honorably as an Airman Second Class in 1967 from Forbes Air Force Base. The decision to remain in Topeka was made, and Michael began selling cars for Laird Noller Ford. His employment there would transition into selling cars wholesale to independent dealers and later becoming owner of Kaw Valley Motor Company at the intersection of 6th and Branner St in Topeka; where he would remain providing transportation for his community until his retirement in 2016.

Michael was a highly respected entrepreneur in the area, known for accommodating customers well beyond his professional obligation. He expanded his business ventures with a car wash and payday loan business on the same corner as his car lot. Business was not paramount in his livelihood, however; he loved to help anybody he could. He would provide vehicles to people close to him for little to nothing, never expecting to be paid in return; and even surprised his parents with a luxury car in their driveway with a bow across the hood. Michael was beloved by everybody who knew him, always asking about the lives and tribulations of others instead of interjecting his own woes onto those around him.

Michael is survived by his family: His son Michael Shane Shedrick; grandchildren Michael V Shedrick, Alyssa Bierman, and Cruz Vale; great-grandchildren Athena Shedrick, Elizabeth Bierman and Max Smith; his sister Linda Flinchbaugh; and his nieces Diana Brian and Amy Hart. He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin Grant and Rosemary Wagman Shedrick, two brothers John T. Shedrick and Ervin Grant Shedrick III, and his grandson Matthew Shedrick; who passed as a young man in 2012.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held at 831 SE Shawnee Heights Rd in Tecumseh, KS on 06/19/2026 at 1pm.
