Michael Eugene "Mike" Herman

Michael Eugene “Mike” Herman, 78, of Topeka, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026.

He was born June 15, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Anthony and Mary Catherine (Newell) Herman. He was a 1965 graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam until being honorably discharged.

Mike was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and later worked for the United States Postal Service in Topeka for 31 years, retiring in 2008.

He was a member of Post Office Retirees Club, Disabled American Veterans, Hayden Class of 1965 Alumni Club.

Mike married Cheryl Lynn Herman on June 3, 1989 at the First United Methodist Church in Topeka. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include his children, Kimberly (P.J.) White of Atchison, KS, Shelly (John) Logan of Gunnison, CO and Joseph (Kendyl) Herman of Branson, MO; step children, Galen (Sheila) Raza-Self of Pittsburgh, PA and Adrian Self of Manhattan, KS; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Pat Esser of Topeka; and his brother, Tom (Jo) Herman of Meriden, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his younger brother, Randall Herman.

Mike loved spending time with family and dining out. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, golfing and baseball.

Honoring his request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where a celebration of life ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m.
