Michael D. Frye

Michael “Mike” Duane Frye was born December 17th, 1957 in Topeka, Kansas. He was the first born son of Donna Theo Salyer and Donald Leroy Frye.

To know Mike is to know his whole life story. He never met a stranger and would tell you everything about himself the first time you talked to him. We often referred to him as our social butterfly. He was a hell raiser in his younger years, and took that fire into his adulthood. He was a proud laborer for 30 years with Wolf Construction.

He enjoyed riding his 2008 Road glide Harley Davidson whether it was up the street to get a burger, across town to see his girls and grands or on many adventures he took across the country. Such as Arkansas, Mount Rushmore, and Sturgis, he burned some miles on that cycle. He had a love for the mountains, the water, and nature.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, working with his hands, creating, building, and helping others or doing side jobs even long after he retired. Which he loved telling everyone “I don’t have to do nothin’ I’m retired”. To know Mike is to know how big his heart is, how kind his soul is, how you could call him any time and he would be there to help.

He had a joy for photography and would snap photos any chance he could. He loved his family fiercely and would always be sure he kept in touch. He helped plan many family reunions and loved spending time with his cousins.

His soul was as beautiful as his baby blues and his hugs as warm as his heart. One thing that filled his heart with so much joy was his love for the “girls”, Ashley, Nicole, and Grace. Whom he spent countless years, days, months, hours, minutes with.

They shared many memories together from grieving the death of their father, to celebrating the grands. He loved spending time with his “grands”, Jordyn, Luani, Henry, Kylo, Wesley, and Lorenzo. Nothing made him happier than being in the orbit of his girls and grands. He also loved his sweet yellow lab, Trixie.

He is preceded in death by his father Donald Leroy Frye, His mother Donna Theo Salyer, His sister Patricia, his baby brother Jefferey, and grandparents.

He leaves behind five Nieces, DawnMarie (Brian), Michelle (Dillon), Ashley (Michael), Nicole (Darnell), and Grace (Dylan). Two grand nieces Jordyn, Luani, four grand nephews, Henry, Kylo, Wesley, and Lorenzo, and his yellow lab Trixie.

Uncle mikes wishes were to not have a funeral but a celebration of life. He said “Lynn, when I go just throw one hell of a party” and I intend to do just that.

Celebration of life will take place on August 15th, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 3025 SE Croco Rd - Shawnee Lake Event Center.

“To all who share the love of the open road, if you ride, please ride on in. Your presence on two wheels would be a fitting tribute to a man who found freedom between the handlebars. Kickstands up one last time in his honor.”
