Michael Cool

Michael “Mike” Cool, 87, of Grantville, Kansas passed away on September 15, 2026. He was born July, 5, 1939 in Topeka the son of Howard and Florence (Kamer) Cool. He graduated from Perry High School in 1958 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where Private First-Class Michael Cool distinguished himself by meritorious achievement in the recovery of helicopters which had been shot down. Private Cool repeatedly volunteered to fly in and out of the recovery area. He subsequently was awarded a Bronze Star.

Mike was married to Janet K. Nedeau at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka on November 28, 1964. Together they built their family home from the ground up. It was the place he loved most, second to his garage, where he was always tinkering with old tractor and chasing his next project. Mike was a life member of Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W. He will always be remembered as the guy in Grantville who put out all the Christmas decorations and lights up during the holidays.

Mike never missed one of his daughter Chris’s games, and his final eighteen years he was happily wrapped around the finger of his granddaughter, Catie.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet Cool; his daughter, Chris Cool and her husband John Grossman; and granddaughter Catie Grossman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florence Cool and his brother, Dan Cool.

The family will receive friends at Parker-Price and Davidson Cremations and Funerals, on Friday evening, September 25th from 6:30 -8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Parker-Price and Davidson on Saturday morning, September 26th beginning at 10:30 am. Military honors and interment will follow the funeral service at Mount Hope Cemetery. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, casual dress is requested; he never had much use for suits, and liked to compare a necktie to a noose.
