With heavy hearts and joyful spirits, we gather to celebrate the life of Maxine Kebert, a devoted housewife and loving mother, who was called home to be with her Lord on May 12, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on August 10, 1927, in Melvern, Kansas, Maxine embodied grace, faith, and an unwavering positivity that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Through her years, Maxine’s life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of family. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and the warmth she radiated. She had a remarkable ability to uplift and inspire those around her, making her presence a true blessing. Known as the best mother around, Maxine was a source of wisdom, encouragement, and joy for her family.
Our beloved Maxine met her life partner, Jimmie Kebert, when he returned from serving in World War II, introduced by her dear brother Ralph. Their love story blossomed in the tender time of post-war reunions, and that love continued to thrive until Jimmie was called to Heaven in 1985. Maxine’s faith remained steadfast, as she looked to the promise of reunion one day in eternal life.
Maxine’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family. She was a joy-filled member of the First Free Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and dedicated her time to serving her community of faith. Her faith was not only important to her but served as the guiding light in all aspects of her life.
Her labor in the garden offered her solace and pride, where she worked lovingly among the flowers and vegetables, a passion she shared with her beloved Jimmie. Together they took great pride in their yard, having earned recognition from the Topeka Capital Journal for its beauty. Maxine also delighted in fishing with Jimmie, where they often competed to see who could catch the most or largest fish—a lighthearted tradition woven with love and laughter.
Maxine is survived by her devoted son Bobby (Cheryl) Kebert, her cherished daughter Carol Nolan, seven grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of her heart, a reflection of her enduring legacy.
Maxine joins her loved ones who have preceded her into the eternal realm: her husband Jimmie Kebert, son Jimmie Kebert, sister Ruth Liggett, brother Ralph Liggett, and her parents, Jason and Vera Liggett. Though our hearts ache at her departure, we hold tightly to our memories, knowing they are treasures until we meet again.
A visitation to honor Maxine will be held on May 15, 2025, at First Free Methodist Church, located at 3450 SE Indiana Ave, Topeka, KS, starting at 9:30 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. The service will conclude, where family and friends will come together to celebrate a life filled with faith, love, and memories that will last through the generations. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
As we bid farewell to our dear Maxine, we find comfort in our belief that she has been welcomed into the arms of her Savior, free from pain and surrounded by love. Let us carry her spirit in our hearts and continue to share her legacy of kindness, joy, and unwavering faith.
