Mary A. Hockenbarger, a cherished mother and faithful friend, left this world on June 19, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on July 25, 1932, in Shawnee County, Kansas, Mary was a beacon of love and kindness in her community, illuminating the lives of those around her with her big heart and caregiving spirit.

A proud graduate of Dover High School, Mary dedicated her life to raising her children and nurturing their dreams. Her career as a devoted mother defined her, and she took immense joy in caring for not only her own children but also the many who were fortunate enough to find comfort in her warmth. She was a trusted babysitter, known lovingly for her ability to make every child feel special and cared for. Her home was a sanctuary of love where laughter echoed and memories were created.

In her younger years, Mary worked at BoBo’s Drive In and Crosby Brothers in Topeka, Kansas.

Mary's deep faith anchored her in times of joy and sorrow. As a member of Heartland Worship Center and later Reaching Out Church, she found strength in her beliefs and forged bonds within her community that only grew stronger over time. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light that inspired her family and friends.

She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Charles "Bill" Hockenbarger, on April 25, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas. Their life together was marked by a deep love that endured until his passing on May 7, 2021. Since then, Mary carried his memory with grace and resilience, reminding those around her of the beautiful legacy of love they shared.

Mary's legacy continues through her surviving family: her sons, Karl and Harold Hockenbarger, and her daughter, Carol (Don) Bogard. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she held dear to her heart.

She now joins her dear parents, David Schwemmer and Eva (Flintham) Schwemmer, along with her beloved siblings—sisters Virginia, Betty, Letha, and Alice, and brother Edwin—sharing in eternal peace.

Mary A. Hockenbarger will be remembered not just for her nurturing spirit but for the extraordinary love she offered to all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of compassion and care remains imprinted in the lives of her family and friends, who will carry her memory forward with honor and love.
