Marvin J. Miller, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2026, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on June 30, 1938, in Ottawa, Kansas, Marvin lived a life marked by dedication, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his community and family.
A proud graduate of Paola High School and a student at Kansas State University, Marvin's early years laid the foundation for a life rich in service and skill. From 1955 to 1963, he honorably served in the Kansas Army National Guard, embodying a spirit of duty that would continue throughout his remarkable career.
Marvin’s professional journey was as varied as it was impressive. Beginning as a farmer, he also worked with McConnel Equipment in Lawrence before embarking on a distinguished 27-year tenure with the Kansas Highway Patrol. His service took him from stations in Wyandotte and Johnson County to the Aircraft Unit in Wichita. Rising through the ranks to Sergeant and then Captain, he served in Topeka on the Executive Aircraft and Governors Security teams, faithfully protecting and serving until his retirement. Post-retirement, Marvin kept the skies close to his heart as a pilot for Spencer Engineering and the Newcomer Funeral Service Group.
Known for his infectious humor and people-loving nature, Marvin was never shy and delighted in making those around him laugh. He genuinely relished engaging with everyone he met, embodying the belief that there was no such thing as a stranger.
An aviator at heart, Marvin was deeply involved with the Kansas Pilot Association and devoted his time as an advisor and flight instructor for Explorer Post 8. His talents extended beyond flying; he was a skilled mechanic and woodworker who could craft cabinets and fix just about anything around the house. His hobbies reflected a man who loved to create, explore, and help others.
Marvin’s community spirit was evident through his involvement with Capital City Church, the Honda Gold Wing Club, and Kiwanis, where his generosity and leadership touched many lives.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Louise Miller, whom he married on December 12, 1958, in Osawatomie, Kansas. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering companionship. Marvin is also survived by his sons, Kevin (Becky) Miller, Kent (Jeanette) Miller, and Darren (Anita) Miller, whose lives he richly influenced. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Levi (Brittany) Miller, Maureen (Justin) Wolf, Cameron (Lauren) Miller, Nicholas (Nicole) Miller, Ryan (Haley) Miller, Haydn (Alicia) Miller, and Jared (Kara) Miller—as well as ten great-grandchildren, all of whom carried forward his spirit and warmth. His sisters, Maralin Weide and Gaylene Halsey, also remain as living testaments to the bonds of family that he treasured.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oldham Everette Miller and Lillian May (Dobson) Miller, as well as his brother, Dorrin Miller.
Marvin Miller's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, service, and skill—a man who touched many hearts not only with his talents and dedication but with a spirit that refused to see anyone as a stranger. He leaves behind a world made richer by his presence and a family inspired by his example. Though he has departed from this life, the echoes of his laughter and kindness will resonate in the lives he so deeply touched.
