Mark J. Karle

Mark Joseph Karle, age 62, of Topeka passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital. Mark was born September 20, 1955 the son of Henry and Betty James Karle. He grew up in Topeka, graduating from Jefferson County North High School. He married Deanna Whalen August 12, 1978 in Topeka. He worked at the Highland Park Market and later at Dillons on Huntoon for several years. In 1986, Mark went to work at Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 28 years, retiring 2015. He was an active Volleyball and Basketball official. He served as the UIC at Ken Berry Baseball complex for several years. Mark was the National Federation of High School Association Volleyball official of the year in 2009 and was inducted into the Kansas Volleyball Associations Hall of Fame in 2016. Mark enjoyed playing golf and was a big KU fan.

Mark is survived by his wife of over 39 years, Deanna; two sons, Ryan (Kimberly) Karle and Tyler Karle, both of Topeka; two brothers, Tim (Joyce) of Jefferson City, MO and John (Keri) of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Connie and Jeanie and a very much loved granddaughter, Madi along with several nieces and nephews.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka Ks 66603. Please use the west entrance into the celebration room at the church.  Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Osage City Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life Wednesday at the Landing Restaurant, 2920 SE Croco in Topeka from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mark Karle Memorial Volleyball Scholarship, to be awarded to a deserving Kansas High School senior girl going on to play college volleyball and sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. davidsonfuneral.com.
