Mark Alan Cavender, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on May 22, 1955, in Topeka, he dedicated much of his life to his passions, particularly as a talented bass player and an EMT.

Mark's commitment to music spanned the majority of his life; he was a member of the Topeka Blues Society and shared his love for music with all who knew him. His passion for performance was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing and camping and spending time with his beloved dogs. In addition to his love of music and nature, Mark was known for his culinary skills, particularly his ability to create delicious pot stews and chili—dishes he took immense pride in sharing with family and friends.

A graduate of Topeka High School, Mark was known for his stubborn yet passionate personality, traits that resonated throughout his life, both in his career and personal relationships. His dedication as an EMT for several years showcased his commitment to helping others, a reflection of the caring spirit that defined him.

Mark is survived by his daughters, Bre (Brad) Hill and Kristen (Brandon) Colvin, as well as his stepchildren Amie (Brent) Byrd and Jason (Tina) Spencer. He was a proud grandfather to Codie, Aubrian, Madison, Parker, Austin, Chelsea, Chantal, Jonathan, and Harper, and he cherished the joy brought by several great-grandchildren. Mark also held dear the lifelong friendships of Kara Oxley and John Bush Jr., whose bonds enriched his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, and his parents, Ward and Leota (Thurber) Cavender. Mark's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched with his music, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cremation is planned. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Please check back.
