Lois M. Gibbs, 80, of Topeka passed away on September 9, 2023 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born October 11, 1942 in Topeka the daughter of Arthur C. and Leona Hogbin Martin. Lois grew up in the Oakland neighborhood and attended Topeka High. We are grateful for her service to our country, Lois served in the United States Army Signal Corps. Upon returning from the Army, she reconnected with her sweetheart, Charles Gibbs, Jr. They married September 2, 1967 and spent 32 wonderful years together before his passing in 2000. Lois enjoyed crocheting, needle point, floral arranging, and cross stich. Lois served as the adjutant for Capital Post #1 of the American Legion.
Survivors include her three children, Norval S. Fortune, Loreena K. Munoz and Robert D. Gibbs all of Topeka; her siblings, Mike Martin, Patrick Martin, Douglas Martin, Sandy Campbell, Karen Fennell all of Topeka and Perry Martin in Alabama; sisters-in-law, Judee Freel Turner of St. Mary’s, KS, Colleen Sue Horn of Topeka, thirteen grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four siblings, Ronald and Russell Freel, Earl Martin and Jackie Brandenburg.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Gardens of Aldersgate and Prairie Wind Hospice for loving our mom and the care she was given.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 7:30pm-8:30pm on Thursday, September 14th, at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N Kansas Ave, Topeka. Graveside services will also be held at Rochester Cemetery on Friday, September 15th, at 3:00 pm.
