Kay Louise (Dial) Rigdon, a cherished member of the Topeka community, left us peacefully on March 2, 2026, at the age of 86, in Tecumseh, Kansas. Born on November 5, 1939, Kay’s journey began in Valley Falls, a place that held fond memories for her.
Kay spent many dedicated years working as a clerk for BNSF railroad. She took pride in her work and earned the respect and friendship of her coworkers.
Kay’s spirited personality shone through in everything she did. She was known for being ornery and outgoing, a combination that made her impossible to forget. Her loving and supportive nature extended beyond herself; she was always there for others, ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. Kay brought joy and laughter wherever she went and had a natural warmth that drew others to her.
Kay graduated from Valley Falls High School, and she carried with her the values fostered during those formative years. Among her many interests, sports held a special place in her heart, especially watching basketball, football, and the Kansas City Royals. Whether it was cheering for her favorite teams or enjoying time with her grandchildren, Kay brought enthusiasm to every moment.
Gardening was another joy in Kay’s life. She enjoyed time outdoors, tending to her garden and sharing its harvest with family and friends. Kay stayed active in her community and friendships throughout her life. She was involved in groups such as Eastern Star, Bunko club, and the Red Hat Society, and she loved gathering with friends for day trips and adventures. Those friendships meant so much to her and added great joy to her days. She also had a soft spot for her dogs and took great delight in spoiling them over the years.
Kay’s family, including her son Chris Rigdon and his wife Mary of Olathe, along with her grandchildren Maddy, Jack, and Meghan, were the joy of her life. She delighted in being actively involved in their lives, creating memories that will be cherished by them forever. Kay is also survived by her nephew, Scott Dial and his wife Janet of Topeka, and her great nieces and nephews, Alexis, Taryn, Manning, and Easton.
Kay is reunited in rest with her beloved husband, Jack Rigdon, whom she married on June 2, 1962, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Together they built a loving marriage and family. She is also preceded in death by her son, Bryan, who passed away on June 14, 2007, her parents Leslie Dial and Wilma (Scheiber), and her brothers, Don Dial and Roland Dial.
As we gather to honor Kay’s memory, we will celebrate a life lived with grace, joy, and endless love. A visitation will be held on March 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m. at Parker-Price & Davidson, located at 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery.
Kay’s legacy lives on in the family she adored, the friendships she treasured, and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
