Kay (Horton) Conn, 87, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023.

She was born at home on November 4, 1936, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Spencer and Ina (Cutright) Horton.

She graduated from Seaman High School in 1955.

Kay was a semi professional genealogist. This all begin in 1974 with her own family tree. She was able to document her ancestors dating back to the May Flower. She was a member of several genealogy societies ranging from Kansas, Ohio, Virginia and Kentucky. Over time, she began branching out and doing genealogical research for other people.

She was active with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts throughout the years. She was den mother for Cub Scout Pack 49 and scout leader for girl scout troop and Brownie Scout Troop #103.

Kay was a part of the Red Hat Society. She remained active with them until she wasn't able to go. She was past madam President of Eagles #58/4319.

Central Park in Topeka held a special role in her heart. She is immortalized on the mural on the Western Ave Park panel. She is the person holding the pen and notepad. Kay was the unofficial historian for the Central Park Area of Topeka documenting houses built in that area.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. When her kids were younger they would take many family vacations throughout the United States. Together they would incorporate research throughout their journeys.

Kay married Thomas Roy Conn on April 9, 1961 at the North Topeka Methodist Church in Topeka, he preceded her in death on January 16, 2013.

Survivors include her children, Deborah (Robert) Huckstep and Brian (Amy) Conn; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Spencer and Ina, husband Tom and siblings, Dale Horton, Merrill Horton, Neil Horton, and Ramona Foust.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 N.W. Independence Avenue. The family will greet friends an hour prior to service. Private burial will take place at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.
