Katherine R. Hanson

Katherine Rose Hanson, 66, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at St Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS. Kathy was born February 29, 1952 in Topeka. She is the youngest daughter of Charley T and Irene Frances (Mack) Starkey. She attended Meriden Grade School and graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1970. She attended beauty school and Kaw Valley Vo-Tech. She had worked at Betson’s Beauty Shop as a certified beautician. She worked several jobs including Payless.  She then worked at Jostens Yearbook Company for over 30 years prior to retiring.

She enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, quilting and sewing. When her kids attended Assumption Catholic School, she volunteered as a classroom aide alongside Sister Carrita. She once belonged to the Kountry Kousins Square Dance Club and the Eagles Lodge.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammye J. (Lerry) Hanson of Silver Lake; son, Randy W. Hanson of Silver Lake; two grandchildren, Ashley (Darrin) Stevenson of Topeka and Rosemary Cox; four great grandchildren; her sister, Mary (Starkey) Irvine of Silver Lake; and brother, “Tom” Starkey and wife, Sammye of Topeka and several nieces and nephews.

Kathy married Ronald Hanson on May 6, 1972 in Topeka.  Ronny preceded her in death on June 28, 1999.   Kathy was also preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jacob.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church on Monday, February 25 ^th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24 ^th at Davidson Funeral Home.   The family will receive friends following the rosary.
