Karen L. Werts

Karen Lee Werts, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at a Topeka care facility. She was born on February 25, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond and Irene (McMinn) Sanford.

Karen graduated from Lecompton High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Northland Christian Church.

Karen married Richard Werts, Sr. They later divorced.

Survivors include children, Richard (Paula) "Rick" Werts of Topeka, Rex (LuAnn) Werts of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Timothy Werts of Topeka and Patti Ericson of Lake Wabaunsee, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and her brother, Danny Sanford of Lecompton.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Don Sanford, Galen Sanford, Larry Sanford and Diana Guffey.

A Celebration of Karen's Life will be announced at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Northland Christian Church.
