Karen Kay Price
Karen K. Price, 84, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. She was born on September 15, 1941, in Topeka to Jesse and Isabelle Price and built a life centered on family, hard work, and caring for others.
Karen was a dedicated employee throughout her life. She worked in meatpacking for several years in Wichita, Kansas, a job that required tremendous strength and endurance. In her later years, she worked at Cotton O'Neil in Topeka, where she began as a Medical Clerk in 1996. In January 1999, she transferred to Clinic Reception/Registrar and remained in that position until her retirement in November 2013. Through her years of service, she earned the respect and admiration of coworkers and patients alike for her professionalism, compassion, and willingness to help others. Friends and colleagues admired her positive spirit and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Karen found joy in reading, fishing, and spending time outdoors with those she loved. Her spiritual faith was an important part of her life, providing strength, comfort, and guidance through both joyful and challenging times.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Isabelle Price; her sister, Cathy C. Ryan; her son, Matthew L. Barnes; and her great-grandson, Daniel M. Barnes.
She is survived by her children, Brett Barnes and his wife, Amy; Penny Cleghorn and her husband, Michael; Mark Barnes and his wife, Kristy; and Jessica Gonzalez, all of whom will forever cherish her love, guidance, and support.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Gabriel, Jeramy, Sasha, Joshua, Justin, Jesse, Tony, Isaiah, Brandon, Luke, Caleb, Adriana, and Ariah; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Above all, Karen treasured her family. She was a devoted daughter, mother, caring sister, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished every moment with her loved ones. Known for her strength, kindness, and perseverance, she touched many lives and will be remembered for the warmth and compassion she shared with family and friends.
Karen’s life was a testament to resilience, devotion, and love. Her genuine nature and unwavering care for others created a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
We can rest, knowing she is now in the arms of Jesus, OUR Savior.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Prairie Home Cemetery in Topeka, KS.
