Judith Courtney, 78, of Topeka passed away at her home on Saturday, April 29, 2023. She was born July 23, 1944 in Topeka the daughter of Alvin and Leona Bateson Lowe. Judith grew up in North Topeka and attended Curtis Junior High. Years ago they had dance contests at Garfield Park Shelter House and she was named the Dance Queen. She had a lifelong love of dancing. Judith was a hard worker, she loved to help anybody she could. She liked to tan and spent many a day working on her tan out in the yard. Judith was always taking care of her brothers. Judith had a green thumb, she enjoyed planting flowers. She worked in patients care. Earlier in life Judith had been in housekeeping at the Ramada Inn, Econo Lodge and at Southgate.
Judith was married to Donald James Courtney. They later divorced and continued to spend time on the phone talking. They had a friendly relationship right up until his passing in 2021.
Judith is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Courtney of Topeka; sons, Danny Lovelady and Donald Courtney both of Topeka; a brother Freddie Lowe; two grandchildren, Cassie Lester and Christopher Lester both of Topeka and three great grandchildren, Jacob Lester, Jayden Lester and Maddie Lester.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin “Buddy” Lowe.
