Juanita D. Ticehurst

January 29, 1927 — July 3, 2025

Topeka

Juanita Doris Davis Ticehurst passed away on July 3, 2025. She was born January 29, 1927 in Topeka, KS, to Guy and Juanita Davis. She met her future husband, Marshall Ticehurst, when they both attended Roosevelt Junior High and went on to become better friends at Topeka High. Juanita attended the Clark School of Business. In May 1947, they were married and their friendship and love spanned over 75 years. Their daughters came along and Juanita chose to stay home to support them in all their activities. When “the girls” were old enough, she worked at the Cotton-O’Neil Clinic, when there were only two doctors. She worked with Marshall in the family business, Kaw Valley Oil Co, and later returned to the Cotton-O’Neil Clinic.

Juanita and Marshall were avid fishermen, hunters and campers with their faithful dog, Sugar. They taught many of their daughters’ friends to water ski and were always fun to be with. They volunteered at Let’s Help and Juanita enjoyed volunteering at Doorstep.

Highlights of Juanita’s life were her daughters and their husbands, her many grand-puppies and kitties, the annual Davis-Ticehurst Christmas parties, their 25th, 50th, 60th and 70th wedding anniversary celebrations, her 77+ year membership in Central Congregational Church, taking “fly-in” fishing trips to Canada, Sunday night fish fries at her home and jumping from a perfectly good airplane at 84, in support of her big brother who wanted to celebrate his 90th in that way.

All her life, Juanita was a witty, kind, delightful person. She and Marshall had family and many friends who loved them. In January 2014, Juanita decided she was ready to leave their home of 63 years and move to a facility with a “continuum of care” and they chose McCrite. Juanita went through each stage of care and made friends with her fellow residents and the staff.

Juanita is survived by her daughters, Marsha Oliver (Phil) and Diane Burton (Larry); a granddaughter, Linzi Breckenridge; a grandson, Aaron Burton (Valeri) and three great-grandchildren, Maya Breckenridge, Samantha Burton and Graham Burton.

A service to honor Juanita’s life will be held at the Parker-Price & Davidson Cremations and Funerals, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, Kansas 66608 on Thursday, July 10, at 2:00 pm. Per Juanita’s request, donations in her honor may be made to Central Congregational United Church of Christ, 5221 SW West Drive, Topeka, Kansas 66606 or the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
