Josie Michelle Wendt, age 14, of Overbrook, Kansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2026. Born on July 23, 2011, Josie lived a beautiful and joy-filled life marked by creativity, kindness, laughter, and a strong and genuine faith in Jesus Christ.
Josie loved being outside exploring, fishing, and finding beauty in the world around her. She enjoyed gymnastics and spending time with her four dogs, Satchel, Bullet, June, and Lola, who brought so much comfort and laughter to her days.
A talented jewelry maker and young entrepreneur, Josie poured her imagination into every piece she created. Her bracelets and necklaces were reflections of her creativity, kindness, and thoughtfulness. She had a natural ability to make others feel special, whether through a handmade gift, a kind word, or her easy, infectious laughter. Her faith guided her daily, and as a devoted follower of Christ, she carried a quiet strength and compassion beyond her years.
Josie is deeply loved by her parents, Brad and Courtney Wendt; her siblings, Jaxson (13), Anderson (10), and Lenna (8); and her grandparents, Danny & Cathy Wendt, Jolyn Wendt, Michelle & David Coleman, and Larry & Becky Shawbaker. She was also dearly loved by her honorary grandparents and longtime neighbors, Alva & Donna and her second set of parents, Derek and Brittany Lang, who held a special place in her heart.
She had many friends in the Overbrook and Carbondale communities, including her “chosen sisters”; Payton Craig, Ava Lang, Abby Lang, and Everly Lang, who shared countless memories, adventures, and laughter with her. Josie had a way of forming deep, meaningful connections, and her friendships were some of the brightest parts of her life.
A celebration of Josie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Grace Community Church, 310 E Eighth Street, Overbrook, KS 66524 where family and friends will gather to honor her beautiful spirit and the joy she brought to the world. The extended family will greet guests following the service until 12:30 p.m.
Dear friends: to whom we are so grateful for your love, prayers and financial support; due to the caution we must take to protect Lenna while she continues to recover, we request not to meet face to face with the immediate family. Thank you for honoring their request. ~ The Wendt family
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family’s Memorial and Donation Fund, which will support charitable gifts, scholarships, and future causes meaningful to Josie’s life and legacy. A portion of the funds will also be designated to assist with Lenna’s continued care and to benefit the Fanconi Cancer Foundation.
