John A. Wright

John Alvin Wright, 86, of Topeka passed away on June 28, 2025 at his son’s home in Topeka, Kansas. He was born June 21, 1939, in Dade County, Missouri, the son of J. Samuel and Perna (Jones) Wright. John grew up in Ft. Scott, Kansas where he also graduated from high school. He graduated from Ottawa University and later Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He served as a pastor at churches in Mound City, Leavenworth, Atchison, Abilene, Topeka, Garnett and Horton. John enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing as well as visiting with friends and family.

He was married to Jean Erma Rudiger on June 26, 1965 at Ft. Scott, Kansas. They had been married for 59 years when she preceded him in death on January 11, 2025.

He is survived by his children, Rick (Kerry) Wright of Topeka, Kansas, Deborah (Mike) Watson of Lampe, Missouri and Elizabeth (Ty) James of Protection, Kansas.; two siblings, Robert (Mary) Wright of Garnett, Kansas and Carol Fehr of Ft. Scott, Kansas; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Wright is preceded in death by his wife, parents and four siblings, Arthur, Wanita, Marvin and Conrad.

His memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 400 E 16th Street, Horton, Kansas 66439. Parker-Price and Davidson, 245 NW Independence, Topeka Ks 66608 is assisting the family.
