Janet Hollier Cochran, of Alexandria, Virginia, was born on September 7, 1954, in Arlington, Virginia, and passed away on December 16, 2020 at the age of 66. She was the daughter of Burton Floyd Cochran and Anne Bryant Cochran. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and was survived by her brother, Bryant James Cochran at the time of her passing, who later passed away April 14, 2026.
Janet spent her life in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County, Virginia, a place she truly called home. She graduated from Fort Hunt High School and remained deeply connected to the community she grew up in.
In 1986, Janet married James Bundy; they later divorced in 1991. She worked as an office secretary before finding her rhythm running a Washington Post paper route in Mount Vernon. Night after night, she faithfully made her deliveries, with her loyal dog, Nelson, by her side—a quiet companion on her route and in her life.
Janet shared a close and devoted bond with her mother, Anne. She managed the household and lovingly cared for her, always putting family first. They spent many happy moments together, especially enjoying their shared love of baseball and trips to see the Washington Nationals play.
She found simple joy in tending her garden, where she grew tomatoes and flowers with care and pride. Janet even built an enclosed garden to keep the deer away, determined to protect what she had nurtured. She loved sharing her vine-ripened tomatoes with friends, a small but heartfelt gesture that reflected her generous nature.
Janet will be remembered for her quiet strength, her steady presence, and the deep care she showed to those closest to her. She lived a life of devotion—to her family, her home, and the small moments that mattered most. She will be deeply missed.
Janet is survived by her loving cousins, Keith Cochran of Statesville, North Carolina (and his wife Kathy), Kevin Cochran, of Augusta, Georgia, Karen Clark (and her husband Stan) of Topeka, and other extended family. He also leaves behind dear friends in Alexandria, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her cousins Curt Cochran, Ken Cochran and Steven Cochran, as well as loving grandparents Floyd and Elma Cochran and aunts and uncles Leland and Maxine Cochran, and Clayton and Norma Cochran.
Janet was cremated. A memorial ceremony celebrating the lives of Janet and her brother, Bryant Cochran will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Private family inurnment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/.
