James "Andy" Forster

May 27, 1960 — March 28, 2022

James Andrew (Andy) Forster was born to Morris V. Forster and Betty J. (Haney) Forster on May 27, 1960.  He passed peacefully with his beloved sons, Jeremy and Ian, at his side on March 28, 2022 .  Andy will be missed by many, as he was always a presence, full of energy and ready with interesting stories to tell. Andy’s firm belief in God and His Son Jesus was a part of his life, and he enjoyed sharing this belief with all.

Andy is survived by his sons, Jeremy and Ian, and his former wife, Megan.  His father, Morris, and his siblings, Ann Holwick, Matt Forster, Alex Forster, Bridget Moody and Ted Forster, will miss him dearly, as will his numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his mother Betty, a brother Paul Forster, and a sister, Jennifer Porter.  His Jayhawk Fire Sprinkler family will miss Andy’s presence in their midst.  For fifteen years, the people at Jayhawk were not only coworkers, but good, caring friends to him.

Andy loved animals (he once had a snake as a pet that he wore around his shoulders when he was a youngster!).  He had rabbits, cats and even a blue jay named Max!  Misfit, the house kitty of late, will miss him.

Andy loved traveling, which he did a lot of while he was in the Army.  He talked about Australia, Thailand and Germany, as the places he had many fond memories of.  The Sykora family, whom he lived with in Germany while he was stationed there, treated him like a son.  He was introduced to the German language by immersion, to good food and of course to great beer!!  He made many friends while in the service and shared stories with his family the last days of his life.

Andy loved music.  He loved listening to it, writing it and playing it.  He had an amazing studio off his bedroom, with a beautiful rosewood drum set.  His pride and joy were his handmade guitars, to which he gave names.  He used each guitar to play a certain style of music, one for his favorite gospel and Christian rock, one for rock-n-roll, etc.  Each guitar is a work of art.

As a tribute to his soft heart, he loved all things Frank Capra!  Nothing better than to spend the day watching these wonderful old movies.

Most of all, Andy loved his sons, Jeremy and Ian.  He was a wonderful, strong role model for them. They have told stories of how he taught them to be strong and to stand up for themselves.  He also taught them to be kind and compassionate.  They are two remarkable young men.  They were always at his side, as was his sister Ann, watching over him and caring for his needs as his cancer progressed.  Andy remarked that, above anything or anyone else, he regrets leaving his sons the most.  They have made him so very proud.

The family wishes to thank Zac Parrington and Brad Seaman of Jayhawk for their friendship and support. We also thank Kansas Palliative and Hospice Care for their kind attention to Andy in his final days.

Please join Jeremy and Ian and family at Andy’s graveside at Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Kansas to celebrate his life, at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022.  As he is a veteran, he will be remembered with an Honor Guard.  No flowers, please.  If you would like to make a donation in Andy’s memory, please make it to Toys for Tots, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
