Howard Lee Lyden, 77, a long-time resident of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, in Baldwin City, KS where he was a patient at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehab Center.
Howard was born in Mulberry, KS and was raised primarily in Topeka, KS. He attended Highland Park High School in Topeka where he excelled in Debate, Emporia State University in Emporia, KS where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda Social Fraternity, and Washburn University, Topeka, KS where he received a degree in Political Science. He then attended Washburn University School of Law where he received a Juris Doctorate degree in 1972.
Howard taught at the University of Nebraska Omaha Campus for several years before entering private law practice. He eventually found a special interest in the construction industry, in which he worked until his death.
Howard is survived by his children; Jenny Hendrix (John Beavers) of Topeka, KS, Wendy Barnett (Dan) of Hoyt, KS, and Jeremy Lyden (Catherine Roberts) of Topeka, KS. Additional survivors include two siblings, Sherry Musick (Ron), and Joetta Lady (Gary), both of Topeka, KS, twelve grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Howard was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Jackie Lyden, and his parents, Clarence and Wilma Lyden.
Howard will be missed by all who knew him.
His children have planned a Celebration of Life for Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Yacht Club at Lake Shawnee between 11:00-2:00. Anyone who knew Howard is most welcome to stop by.
