Hazel Frances (Holland) Kroth, 88, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
She was born September 27, 1937, in Rumbley, Maryland, the daughter of Aubrey Neville and Ida Catherine (Meredith) Holland. She was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne, Maryland.
Hazel was employed by the City of Topeka Water Department and later was co-owner of The Open Window Store in Topeka, until retiring.
She was a dedicated and long-time active member of Elmont United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Women. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond the church as she generously volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission and Topeka Outreach, touching many lives in her community.
Hazel married Larry G. Kroth on June 20, 1958 in Fairmount, Maryland. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2015. Survivors include her two daughters, Lisa Phillips and Lezlee (David) Jones, both of Topeka; three grandchildren, Jared (Becky) Phillips, and Kylie and Allie Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Hailey Phillips; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; several siblings; and her son-in-law, Mike Phillips.
Hazel was a cherished member of her family and community, known for her deep devotion to her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Her church family held a special place in her heart, reflecting her strong faith and commitment. Hazel found joy in traveling, tending to her flower garden, and exploring thrift shops and antique stores. She was also a passionate supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State. Her warmth and enthusiasm touched the lives of many, and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Honoring her request, cremation is planned. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, where a memorial ceremony will be at 2:00 p.m. Private family inurnment will be at Buck’s Grove Cemetery, Havensville, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elmont United Methodist Church, 6635 NW Church Lane, Topeka, KS 66618 or Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
