Harry Dean Lewis passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Peggy Kelly House in Topeka, KS at the age of 80. He passed away from dementia and other health complications. He was born on January 28, 1937 in Manhattan, KS. He is the son of Harry Lewis and Erma Willis Lewis and younger brother of Maxine Keck. The family moved to Topeka, KS in 1949. Harry graduated from Topeka High School in 1955.
He married Barbara Ragsdale in October of 1958. Together they had five children: Brenda Anderson, Sherri Harper, Richard Lewis, Randy Lewis and Lisa Pena. Harry and Barbara later divorced in 2000.
Harry was a mechanic for his entire adult life. He began working for Standard Oil and then later for Jim’s Conoco. He retired in 2001.
Harry lived a simple life and he didn’t need a lot to be happy. He lived each day in the moment and laughed as much as possible. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Josh Anderson, playing and taking care of his dog, having a nice conversation over a cup of coffee and an occasional steak dinner. Those that were close to him will always remember him for his sense of humor, love for animals and collecting anything that “might be worth something someday.”
He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Erma as well as three children, Brenda, Richard and Randy. He is survived by two daughters, Sharri Harper and Lisa Pena; his sister Maxine Maxine Keck of Utah along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
