Flora "Punky" Louise Hildebrand

August 23, 1937 — July 22, 2025

Topeka

Flora "Punky" Hildebrand, a beloved homemaker turned dedicated civil servant, left our world on July 22, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 87. Born on August 23, 1937, in Orange, California, Punky's journey through life was one marked by her spunky personality and unwavering faith.

After graduating from Orange High School in 1956, Punky devoted herself to her family before embarking on a fruitful career with the State of Kansas Department of Revenue in 1976, where she worked diligently for 22 years. Her commitment to her job was paralleled only by her commitment to her family, which she considered her proudest accomplishment.

Punky's warm and outgoing nature drew countless friends and family close to her heart. If you asked her a question, you were guaranteed a direct and honest answer, a testament to her candid spirit. Her love for life shone brightly through her passions, such as square dancing, quilting, sewing, knitting, traveling, camping, and photography. Time spent with family and friends was where her joy truly blossomed, creating countless cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.

Punky is survived by her three beloved daughters, Cynthia Hildebrand, Donna Hildebrand, and Sheri (Larry) Wehner, who will carry on her legacy of love and resilience. She was also cherished by her grandchildren, AJ (Mary) Brown, Kirstin Guetzlaff, Kelsey (Josh) Lingenfelter, Katie (David) Harvey, Steven (Mallory) Baker, Hunter Wehner, and Joseph Wehner, along with 10 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Her sister, Sandy McShane, niece, Mindy Cheri, and nephew, Scott and Rusty Hildebrand, held a special place in her heart as well.

Punky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Hildebrand. Their union was a source of strength and joy, and his memory will always be an integral part of her legacy.

As we remember Flora "Punky" Hildebrand, we honor a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as the colors of the quilts she crafted, a woman who laughed with her friends, danced with her loved ones, and cherished every moment of family time. Her warmth and authenticity will be deeply missed, yet her love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Memorial Contributions in her memory can be made to "Shawnee County Fair Association."
