Flora Debacker

Flora DeBacker, 89, of Topeka passed away on Friday July 8, 2022. Flora (Kisner) DeBacker was born on February 7, 1933 in Pfeifer, Kansas to Adam and Cecilia (Jacobs) Kisner. She attended Pfeifer Parish Grade School and Schoenchen High School before moving to Topeka, Kansas and working at Southwestern Bell. Flora was a proud German Catholic and loved being from Western Kansas. It was in Topeka that she met her late husband John (Jack) DeBacker and this solidified her decision to move to Topeka permanently.

Flora and Jack were married on February 23, 1957 and have three children together; Greg DeBacker, Samantha Skorija and Steve DeBacker. In addition to raising her children she proudly tackled the role of bookkeeper. Flora was the Secretary/Treasurer of DeBacker’s Inc where she worked alongside Jack who served as President for many years. Though Flora and Jack traveled the world together after raising their children, Flora was happiest in Topeka surrounded by her family and kitties. In 1990 Flora and Jack built their home at the apple orchard. It is this home that served as the heart of family gatherings for her children and grandchildren for years to come.

In addition to her three children, Flora has seven grandchildren; Christopher DeBacker, Daniel DeBacker, AJ DeBacker, Kelsey Bower, Alex Skorija, Ellen Cohn and Margaret McNeely. She is survived by 6 great grandchildren as well. Flora is preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Kisner and Delmar Kisner and two sisters, Bernice Cochran and Twila Grace. Her surviving sisters are Melvina Sexton, Mary Jane Kuhn and Vera Toyzan.

A rosary will be recited beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka.  Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am Friday at St. Joseph’s.  Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
