Farris W. Derby, age 75 of Augusta, KS, formerly of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Farris was born June 11, 1942 in Axtell, Kansas the son of George and Vera Johnstone Derby. He grew up in Topeka attending Curtis Junior High School and graduated from Topeka High School in 1960. He married Janet Easum Barrett in 1987. She survives. He worked as a machinist for Seymore Foods in Topeka for over 36 years. In 2000 he moved to Augusta where he worked for Pioneer Balloon in El Dorado and later as a substitute bus driver for the El Dorado Schools. Farris enjoyed westerns in his later years.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Augusta; two daughters, Regina Derby of Ozawkie and Karen Burnett of Topeka; a step daughter, Jill (Shane) Paletta of Topeka; a brother, David Derby of Topeka; a son, Wayne Derby of El Dorado; a step son, Dan Barrett of Ozawkie; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grantville Cemetery. He will lie in state Thursday from noon – 8:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Heart Association and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
