Elmer was born May 10, 1925 in Meriden, KS the son of Omer and Ellen (Berg) Bowen. He grew up at Meriden and attended Meriden schools. He joined the United States Army and served for four years during World War II.
He was married to Merice Whitlock at Meriden in 1947. Merice preceded him in death on May 22, 2010.
Elmer worked for 35 years at Goodyear. He retired as a inspector and refiner. He was a member of the United Rubber Worker (later United Steel Workers). He was a member of the masonic lodge at Meriden, and he enjoyed wood working. Elmer and Merice enjoyed square dancing. They danced with a group known as the Wheat Hearts. In Bella Vista, Arkansas they belonged to the King Dale Squares.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his daughter Jeannie Neeley and her husband David of Topeka. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry R. Bowen in 2014.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Meriden Cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
