Eddie Stanley, a dedicated public servant and beloved family man, was born on April 27, 1971, in Salisbury, Maryland. He left this world unexpectedly in Topeka, Kansas, on April 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by his unwavering commitment to his family.
Eddie dedicated over two decades of his life to the Topeka Police Department, beginning his distinguished career in 2001. As a Lieutenant, he was not just a figure of authority; he was the embodiment of a public servant who genuinely cared about those he served. His deep concern for the welfare of others and his pursuit of justice were evident in every action he took. Eddie was respected and loved by all who had the privilege to know him.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often spending time at home with his wife, Kara, creating treasured moments together. Eddie relished taking their grandchild Gryffin down to the pond, and there was nothing quite like the laughter shared while riding around their property in the golf cart. Playing cornhole was a favorite pastime, where friendly competition with Kara brought smiles and laughter to their home. Many evenings were spent on the porch, listening to music, trying to guess the artist and song together—these moments defined their warmth, camaraderie, and love.
Eddie's educational journey began at Seaman High School, from which he graduated in 1989, setting the foundation for his future endeavors. Imbued with a spirit of ingenuity, he was known for his ability to fix anything and build just about anything, especially projects around the house. Whether it was a remodel or a simple repair he took pride in making his home a sanctuary for his family.
Family was the cornerstone of Eddie’s life. He married his soulmate, Kara Wurtz, on September 11, 1993. Together, they raised two sons and two daughters: Skyler (Grace) Stanley, Tayler (Chandler) Bush, Cameron Stanley, and Adyson Stanley. Eddie’s love extended to his grandchildren, Gryffin and Grayson Bush, with whom he proudly shared his goofy side and tender heart. He was an unwavering support for his family, always there to help in any way they needed.
His legacy will be carried on by his beloved wife Kara, his children and grandchildren, his mother Joyce Stanley, and his sisters, Theresa (Paul) Byrd and Michele Stanley; his brother in laws Allen (Elissa) Bryan (Brigid) and sister in law Marla as well as his nephew and nieces Malik, Isaac, Ivy, Justin (Nena), Jordan, Brandon, Aaron, Miranda, Cate, Logan, Bryan, Cody and Danny. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Stanley, and his grandparents, Theresa and Alvin Jordan, who now embrace him in eternal peace.
Eddie's life will be celebrated on April 30, 2025, with a Celebration of Life at Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66617 starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a Graveside Service at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604.
