Donald "Pete" Clyde Godlove, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022.
He was born June 1, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Clyde and Ona (Allen) Godlove. He graduated from Berryton High School in 1956.
Pete was a truck driver for most of his life working for Chip Carriers, Frito Lay, and Holton Live Stock pulling Frito Lay Trailers. Over his career, he received an award for "10 years of safe driving', an award for one million miles of "Safe Driving" with Chip Carriers and an award for traveling two million miles of "Safe Driving" with Frito Lay. He was also employed for the Santa Fe Railroad for 10 years.
In his free time, Pete enjoyed gardening, working on word search puzzles, watching sports, cooking, and fishing, especially pond fishing. He loved spending time with his family. He had a sweet tooth and loved eating chocolates. Shirley and Pete enjoyed taking drives to find restaurants to have dinner, dancing together and attending the Frito Lay Retirement dinners. He enjoyed attending the Auburn Bluegrass concerts and jam sessions. He will be remembered as always having a story to tell.
Pete and Shirley were members of the Moose Lodge and the Wagoneers Camping Group.
Pete married Shirley L. Thompson on December 19, 1999 in Eureka springs, AR. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Godlove; son, Martin (Tanya) Godlove; daughter, Michelle (Todd) Black; step son, Rick (Candace) Thompson; step-daughter, Janet (Gene) Smith; grandchildren, Jonathan and Connor Black, Anthony Thompson, Matt Mullens, Logan Swindle, Allison Thraughber, Melissa Smith and Emily Wilburn; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (John) Ganger and Bev (Dennis) Mohler. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary (Bill) Keefe.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Parker Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, Kansas. A graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Lynn Creek Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
