Donald D. Bennett, age 86, of Topeka passed away Tuesday morning, May 2, 2017 at his home in Topeka. Don was born January 13, 1931 in Topeka the son of Raymond and Ruth Nisbeth Bennett. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1949. He married Normajean Schonfeldt September 9, 1951 in Topeka. Don worked for the Topeka Capital Journal/Stauffer Publications for over 44 years. He was a member and past president of the Local Union #49. Don was a charter/lifelong member of the Seaman Community Church where he served as Diaconate and on the church counsel as well as singing in the choir. He was very active and supportive with the Topeka North Outreach. He served as secretary/treasurer of the Consolidated Rural Water District #4. Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Randall Bennett, who went down on the USS Indianapolis after delivering the “A” bomb. Don is survived by his wife, Normajean Bennett of over 65 years; four daughters, Linda (Steve) Walters of West Point, NE, Carol (Pat Mulroy) Griffin of Mayetta, Susan (Darrel) Pendergast of Topeka and Shari (Mike Beam) Bennett of Topeka; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seaman Community Church. He will lie in state Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seaman Community Church or the Topeka North Outreach and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
